AP: What is the title of your new release?
FM: The Nightmare Hunter (Book 1 of The Dream Journal series)
AP: Where did you get the idea?
FM: I love all things Paranormal and have always been a big fan of Sci-fi and Horror, books as well as films and TV. I watched a documentary about night terrors, sleepwalking, nightmares and such, so this was in the back of my mind. I began to look deeper and did some research on Parasomnia and how it affects people in different ways. Of course being a fan of Paranormal, Sci-fi, and Horror, I wanted to explore a way that some of these nightmares and night terrors could be actual events and how that might be misdiagnosed. That was the beginning of The Nightmare Hunters.
AP: Who is your main character? Why are you writing from his or her or third person perspective?
FM: My main character is Dr. Anne Pate, a psychiatrist who treats patients suffering from Parasomnia. It is written almost entirely from the third person perspective. The exception is the contents of Liz’s dream journal, which is key to the story. This applies to my Being Mrs. Dracula series as well, told primarily in third person but switching to first person for the diaries and journals of the brides of Dracula.
Is there a supporting character that you want to spend more time on in the future?
FM: Maddie Jensen is a very strong supporting character. Anne wouldn’t make it very far without her so she is certainly going to be a big part of Part Two, which is my current Work In Progress.
AP: What do paranormal/horror readers have to look forward to in your new release?
FM: I think that paranormal fans are in for an exciting ride, maybe even take them someplace unexpected. It is difficult to say too much without giving it away, but I hope when readers discover what happened to Liz, when they find out what the nightmare is that Anne and Maddie seek, that they are surprised. I hope it isn’t what they were expecting but in a good way, and maybe even have a few sleeping with a light on.
