Night after Day

Night after night, day after day;

you’re in my face, you’re in way.

Day in day out; night after night;

you’re in my way, you’re wanting to fight.

I tried to push past you;

I tried to run.

But you keep swinging;

until you’re done.

Night after night, day after day;

you’re on my case, you’re hurting me.

Day in day out, night after night;

you want to hurt me, you make me cry.

I tried to shield my eyes;

I tried to close them.

But you keep yelling;

until the lights go dim.

To me this poem is about all forms of abuse. It could be from a parent, spouse, co-worker, friend or from anyone. We never really realize how much we can hurt someone with our words. I am guilty of this myself. Sometimes I speak without thinking. Sometimes I speak out of anger. This is so wrong in me. Words are precious gifts from God and we should always use them to bring glory to His name.
